Dear Girl Scout Family,

As our community situation continues to evolve during the pandemic, the plans for Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines must shift accordingly. Therefore, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of all in-person resident, troop, and day camps through August 2020.

Trust me when I say I completely understand how heartbreaking this news is for our girls, families, volunteers, and staff. Canceling in-person summer camp is painful and emotional decision, but it is the right thing to do for our girls. As a member of Girl Scouts for 42-years, I can honestly say Girl Scout camp changed my life.

At the end of the day, the health and safety of our girls and members has (and always will) come first. While our camps adhere to the most stringent safety protocols, much is still unknown about when Minnesota and Wisconsin will be fully relieved of the Stay-at-Home directives. Social distancing and crowd limits will likely remain in effect throughout the summer, and too much is still unknown with respect to the spread of COVID-19. Please understand this was not a decision we chose to make, rather it was a decision we had to make.

Alternative Camp Programming
Although we will not be meeting in person, we are working on special camp programs to welcome our campers – virtually. We remain committed to fulfilling our promise to offer high-quality outdoor experiences to our girls and volunteers. We will continue to share more about “GO Virtual” summer camp programming as plans become finalized.

We trust those who are impacted by this news will receive it with the courage, confidence and character that only a Girl Scout possesses. During this unique time in our history, remember Girl Scouting will be here for you, bringing opportunities to celebrate and experience the outdoors together.  I hope to see you this summer!

2020 Summer Camp Program Cancellation FAQs

What is happening with Girl Scouts, Lakes & Pines camps this summer?

Given the current health issues we are all familiar with, we regret to announce traditional in-person on-site camp and day camp sessions are suspended until summer 2021.  Safety limitations imposed by county, state, and federal governments mean we simply cannot provide the same overnight experience you would expect at summer camp.   Have no fear, at Girl Scouts we will always focus on what we can do, and we have an exciting option for you this summer. While conventional on-site camp is suspended for this summer, Lakes & Pines Girl Scouts will have weekly virtual sessions that are camp themed and delivered by our very own camp directors.

Why did you cancel the entire summer? Why not cancel week-by-week?

We strive to provide the highest-quality summer camp experience. To do so, we require several weeks on-site to train our staff and prepare camp facilities. Pre-camp training includes industry certifications in lifeguarding, outdoor adventure, water safety, and horsemanship as well as leadership skills, safety protocols, emergency procedures, behavior management, and first aid training. We cannot run a safe camp program without this time, and we could not predict when it would be safe for camp staff to return to camp to complete this training.

What is Virtual Summer Camp?
  • These are weeklong experiences based on some of the same themes originally scheduled for the summer.  Camps will consist of a mix of on-her-own activities, video programming and time spent “all-together” with other campers and camp staff via Zoom.
  • Campers can experience (from home) what a typical day at camp is like including morning flag ceremony, lunch time together, themed activities and evening campfires.
  • Our camp directors will deliver summer programming.
  • Camp sessions will be offered for all-ages Monday through Friday, commencing Monday June 15,2020 through Friday July 31,2020.
  • Portions of our virtual summer camp sessions will be delivered from our (4) amazing camp locations:
    • Camp Roundelay
    • Camp Sanderson
    • Camp Shingobee Timbers
    • Northern Lakes Canoe Base
  • GSUSA is working on National Virtual Camp Activities which we will incorporate into our programing.
  •  In August, we will focus on the new GSUSA badges. Shhhhhhhhhh, it is a surprise, more information coming July 21, 2020.
  • See details on virtual registration below
My girl is already registered and paid for 2020 in person camp. What do I do?

Mid-May, Lakes & Pines staff will reach out to you directly regarding managing your already-paid funds.

You have three choices:

  1. If you want to hold her spot at camp for summer 2021, tell us when we reach out to you by responding to the survey included in the email communication.  We will hold her payment and a space for her next summer.   You will see a “credit” on your UltraCamp account. The first 39 participants to hold payment and a space for camp 2021 using this option will receive a T-Shirt Blanket.  Additional registrations for camp 2021 wishing to roll over their payment will receive a 2020 Camper T-Shirt.
  2. Request a refund.  Due to COVID-19 we are making an exception to waive our non-refundable deposit policy for this situation only.  We will refund 100% of your payments, including deposits. If your girl wants to attend our GO virtual summer session(s), we can deduct $25 for each session selected and refund any remaining balance.
  3. Donate your payment (part or all) to the Lakes and Pines Campership Fund to ensure all girls can have a camp experience without financial barriers.  If you have the ability, consider making this generous donation to delight a girl and give her an experience of a lifetime.
Can I still order a camp care package for my girl?

Absolutely! We have camp care packages as well a variety of 2020 Camper T-Shirt available for purchase.  In addition to care packages, we have many exciting and fun camp merchandize that can be purchased individually or added to customize the care package.
